Hooks and skewers only scary to the common
Devoted
worshipper pierced their skin with hooks and skewers during the recent Datuk
Chachar Festival while other devotees
carried offerings of milk pot. Others used spears to pierce their cheeks.
As they make
barefooted steps till the Sri Muthu Mariamman Temple in the Chetti village on
Gajah Berang Road, some devotees were restrained with hooks pierced into their
back. Thumping drumbeats nonstop accompanied the devotees from the Sri Poyatha
Moorti Temple on Goldsmith Street, built in the year 1781 as recorded in the
Dutch grant.
Goldsmith
Street where the Chetti Temple and Tanjong Kling Mosque is located, has
together with Blacksmith Street which begin from Pin Pin Hiong restaurant to
the Da Bo Gong Temple and joining with Cheng Hoon Teng Temple to the Guang Fu
Kong Temple is now a harmony street.
On April 1
last month, Guang Fu Kong celebrated on a high note, and one week after the Datuk Chachar Festival, the Sam Toh Tong Temple is holding the World 10th Anniversary of Da Bo Gong this coming 4th, 5th and 6th May 2018. By mid-May, the fasting month of Ramadan begin and the Tanjong Kling Mosque is going to have daily activities of the Tarawih prayers and so forth. You must not miss this street when you visit Melaka !
