A Game Played for 1500 Years

Chess is a game which have been played for almost 1500 years. Starting in India, Chess later went to Persia and by the 13th century chess seem to have been played all over Western Europe. Chess is played between two opponents on a board of eight rows of eight squares each, coloured alternatively white and black.

Each player has on the rank in front of him five kinds of pieces namely the king, queen, rooks, knights and bishops with the objective of capturing the opponent's king. One square in any direction is the simplest move of the king on the board.

There is no method of learning to play chess except by actually playing it.
