Yong Chuan Tian Temple Wangkang - What the Governor said?

 Wangkang 2024 has a name, He An Hao. Wangkang is set to cleanse the city of Malacca on Thursday 11 January 2024.

In 1933, His Excellency Sir Cecil Clementi, G.C.M.G., Governor and Commander in Chief, Straits Settlements, who sends a message to the Malacca on the eve of the Wangkang festival.

What did the Governor said?

" The Malacca Guardian requests me to send a message to the people of Malacca on the eve of the Wangkang Festival. I gladly do so; for, although this festival is essentially Chinese, it is in the historical Settlement of Malacca that most progress has been made in the Malayanization of the immigrant races which have made his country their home and, therefore, the non-Chinese will, I know, cordially share in the rejoicing of their Chinese friends. I hope with all my heart that this festive occasion may increase the good fellowship happily existing between the communities of all races inhabiting Malacca and that it may prove to be the starting point of a new era of prosperity, not only for Malacca, but for the whole peninsula "
