Rain has come to Melaka

The smiles return for rain has come

Rainfall is great where there are high mountains [Note 1] to trap the moisture borne by the winds from the South China Seas and from the Straits of Melaka.

“ Dryness ” is the key word in understanding Arabia, the desserts but not for Melaka

Since May 1, 2019 rain measured is only marginal.

If heavy rainfall continues, which is expected to do so until November, not only flash floods would replace people homes but the soil would lose most of its fertility.

When rain falls in Melaka, there is usually far more than enough to wet the surface or to soak into the soil and the surplus runs off, and eventually works its way to the Straits of Melaka.

More importantly, rain falls in Melaka has to cover the Durian Tunggal Dam to which I have visited on May 29 with a kid [Note 2] from Machap Baru.

Lotuses everywhere got me fascinated but this kid alerted me that their colonies has shrink due to the receding water level.

Rain, has come to everyone!
Hello, how is the rain pouring
Over the roof, in mid-afternoon,
And the rain drops roaring!

Hello, how the rain is roaring;
Home in rain is a better place
When the afternoon rain is pouring!

End to the long-waited rain,
Where our taps are running dry
And our YB share our feel of pain,
Urging water tankers rushing to their cries.

The prevailing weather conditions in Melaka make up what we call its climate and we have to reckon climate changes could affect survival of living things. It was worsened with the transboundary haze recently and the people of Melaka has depended on the mercy of the winds to bring down the Air Quality Index.

A couple of weeks ago, when Malaccans were complaining about the hot and hazy weather, a great balloon of cold air thousand of kilometers away was forming and heading right towards Melaka.

Malaccans will be unaware of this invisible balloon until it arrives and your senses will tell you, “ The air is colder today ”, especially and in particular, to every participant of The Lantern Walk Of Japerun Bandar Hilir Mid-Autumn Festival 2 nights ago, led by YB Datuk Tey Kok Kiew and Datuk Gary Choo from Mamee.

Note 1 Mountain and hill serve to filter dust in the air and helps the condensation of water vapour in the sky.

Note 2 This kid is a TP3 boy who has great talent in photography. He lives in Machap Baru.

My job is to transport readers to fabulous and fascinating Melaka and take them back to medieval times, from bustling sites over to deserted sites or even into the secrets of Melaka.

With a task like that, tired and overused words like “pretty” and “fun” just won’t cut it. Here, readers can find the right words to conjure up a three-dimensional scene of places in Melaka and start travelling.
