Is spoon more useful than a pair of chopstick?

Three tables behind me the cook of Masakan Thai was crashing the spatula onto the wok loud enough to remind me of his variety of fried rice, while I was watching how the meddling of the two cellphones distracted the meals of a young man and a young lady two tables in front.

She was tapping the screen of her cellphone at high speed with her right index finger while her left middle finger, index finger and thumb held a plastic spoon in mid-air.

The tapping ceased and she spoon fed once before releasing the spoon onto the plastic container of the mixed-rice to grab the cellphone close to her left ear.

She spoke into the microphone of the cellphone to reply to someone and then another spoon of rice was scooped with her left hand.

She uncrossed her legs and crossed again with the right over the left locking her ankles as she scooped the rice and tapped the screen again.

She has hardly eaten a quarter of rice since she spent more time on the cellphone.

She must be a right-handed lady or else she would had used her left index finger to tap the screen of her cellphone.

What she did urged me to go back in time, when there was hardly anyone feeding oneself with a spoon left-handed for a right-handed where phones is land-wired.

With trendy short golden hair, partly concealing her strong, angled jawline, the soft fine hair subtle bangs hit her cheekbones and brushes her cheeks matching Hailey Baldwin.

She was taking lunch at the food court with her colleague in Aeon Bandaraya, Melaka.

A chubby young man, with stylish brush up held his cellphone in mid-air resting his left elbow on the table, while his right hand maneuvered the chopstick in picking up a piece of fried white carrot.

His eyeballs darting from cellphone to each pick from the packet of fried white carrot and vice versa instead of being glued to his favorite movie tell me how busy he was during working hours.

Her eyes and his eyes did not meet, because of the cellphones and the food.

Before cellphone becomes a basic need, you do not meet someone’s eyes because you are shy but today men and women have breakdown shyness yet they miss out to gaze at each other.

Eye contact has become rare these days.

Whether between parent and children, or husband and wife, the number of times they make eye contact has become lesser due to more distraction these days.

What is at risk is that they have taken affection for granted therefor ignoring eye contact to stimulate affection for someone reckoned with the production of a bodily chemical, phenylethylamine.

Though both the young man and the lady did not make eye contact, they must have worked hard before lunch and for him enjoying a movie during lunch and making some follow-ups for her.

Diving deeper into the big picture of this scenario, the lady has showed the prowess of the spoon and while the young man has showed the chopstick.

Which is better? The chopstick or the spoon?

My job is to transport readers to fabulous and fascinating Melaka and take them back to medieval times, from bustling sites over to deserted sites or even into the secrets of Melaka.

With a task like that, tired and overused words like “pretty” and “fun” just won’t cut it. Here, readers can find the right words to conjure up a three-dimensional scene of places in Melaka and start travelling.
