Cheng Wah Keong Temple Procession in Melaka on Sunday 11 August 2019

Impressive bold and colorful painted face masks from the Peking Opera are one of the most attractive features during China and Taiwan temple festival and these face masks appeared on the streets on Friday 9 August to Sunday 11 August 2019 in Fabulous Melaka.

Over the weekend, the Taiwan face masks art appeared in many parts of Melaka; and at this temple, during taoist street parade and and in cultural shows within Jonker Walk.

The art of these face masks differs in different parts of the huge terrains of China and this art dates back to the ancient tradition of face-painting among the warriors.

Because face masks was used in battle during imperial China, the war of the Chinese Dynaties paint color coded the spirit and personality of each character which you can observed on another form used by the military during the national day parade by the army contingent in Melaka on 31st August 2019.

White represent crafty, evil, dangerous, sinister, and suspicious behavior. Performer who wear a white painted face mask takes the role of a villain, the larger the white painted area, the more wicked he play the role.

Green denotes behavior of the thoughtless, violence and lack of self-restraint.

Red is ferocious and faithfulness.

Black means boldness, fierceness and impartiality.

Yellow symbolizes hopes and wishes, energetic and intelligence.

Blue implies steadfastness, for someone who is loyal and sticks to one side no matter what.

Pink typifies elegance and calmness without worries.

Gold and silver stand for egnima and remote.

When the rising sun cast an orange light with varying saturation projected to the bluish sky from the horizon of Merlimau to Kandang over waving pinnae of coconut trees , a friend of RELA man was briefing me, the routes the taoists are going to walk on.

Minutes later, YB Khoo Poay Tiong 邱培栋 , YB Tey Kok Kiew 鄭國球 , YB Low Chee Leong 刘志良 and YB Allex Seah 谢守钦 are seen entering the temple compound. They flagged off the procession at 9.00 a.m. which journeyed a distance of 19 km.

Plenty of tourist spead over the walking zones, enjoyed this heritage of the UNESCO listed city currently oversee by a secondary schoolmate, Tuan Haji Mansor Bin Sudin as The Mayor and while the were surrounded by a seas of taoist, amazingly; smiles wear their faces. What would they do then ?

The Answer : Non-Stop Seizing of Moment with the camera.

Wish You Were There.

On stage though, they have to give way
