Was it Malacca Free School 193 years ago?
The only non-denomination school opened in 1826 was the Malacca
Free School now known as Sekolah Tinggi Melaka.
Do you know that by the middle of the nineteen century, its
standards were low, and the authorities repaired the school buildings instead
of taking over this school.
Would there be a 193rd Anniversary Dinner if the government
did not take actions to prevent its collapse in 1878. The Governor announced
the Malacca Free School had ‘become useless educationally’
The Malacca Free School was renamed Malacca High School in
the same year but its standard remained low until the twentieth century.
A strong demand for English education came about in the
beginning of the twentieth century as the global economic development took
place and Raja Chulan received an English education with the school in the
1880s.
Whatever in happened in the past is now a history, and what
