Yah and Peh Hoo Ong Yah. According to research by scholars the temple commenced
in 1818 at the latest estimate. With that date, the temple has a history of 200
years.
The
Wangkang procession is Ong Yah’s way to protect Melaka from harm.
The Melaka
Wangkang tradition commenced in the mid 19th century. Yong Chuan
Tian deities, Tee Hoo Ong Yah and Cheng Wah Keong deities Chu Hoo Ong Yah
jointly held the Wangkang procession in 1880, 1891, 1905 and 1933 and the
procession was well received by the local community.
There was a
lapse of 68 years. In 2001, the procession was revived on the orders of Tee Hoo
Ong Yah. Yong Chuan Tian organized the prayer sessions, built the Wangkang
Barge and held the procession in the name of Five Ong Yah and it attracted the
attention of scholars.
