Padi Museum
The Kedah
Paddy Museum is situated at Gunung Keriang which is about 8 km from the Alor
Setar city centre. It was officially opened by His Royal Highness Tuanku Sultan
Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah the 28th of Sultan Kedah on 12 October
2004 corresponding to 27th Syaaban 1425.
The building
is shaped like a bundle of paddy stalks
forming the main structure and six wings around it. It has the hill called
Gunung Keriang as its backdrop and appears as though it is in the middle of a
green carpet during the paddy planting season and turns into a golden
appearance when the paddy plant is ripe
.
The purpose
of building this museum is mainly to provide a location to act as a depository
for collecting and displaying objects scientific, historical or artistic
values
.
At the same
time, it is envisaged that research, development and expansion of paddy
technology can be carried out here. The Paddy Museum is built on a `12,000
