Today, Melaka has an API of about 150 in the morning. On June 24, 2013, Melaka State Government distributed 88,000 masks.

We live in the sea of air that surrounds the earth, you and I call it the atmosphere or alam sekitar in the Malay Language. The earth’s atmosphere is made up of 78 parts nitrogen, 21 parts oxygen and about 1 part of other mixture of gases.

When the atmosphere is stuffy, you may get a headache as the carbon dioxide from your lungs is not being carried away. So carbon dioxide is a bad air to man and where does this carbon dioxide go ?

“Bad air” is refer to the carbon dioxide exhaled from your lungs or from a fire and too much of it is bad for you. Green plants help to get rid of the excesses so that your town has a healthy balanced atmosphere.

Do your town grow trees adding to what nature as gifted or felling of  trees in your town is look upon as a kind of modernization.

When the haze blanketed the sky, the air you breathe is dustier than the usual atmospheric air which has been polluted.

Now, where does the usual dust come from ? The dust that remind you of the need to mop the floors or other surfaces in your home; once not enough but twice.

The composition of dust differ from place to place and and if you are living close to an industrial area, where there are many factories, dust contains many particles of carbon and other solids that come with the smoke. In caring for the environment, the ISO 14001:2004 set out criteria for a company to manage the environment. Since Melaka is quite close to Riau, the forest fires in the provinces of South Sumatra, Jambi and Riau has added to the already recorded unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) reading of 105 in Bukit Rambai, Melaka, on July 21.

Much of the dust remains in the air and only some of it is washed down by rains. In addition to factory smoke, wind-borne soil and sand dust, the carbon monoxide expel by automotive engines, haze provide fine suspended particles and make the sky misty, foggy and cloudy. Hazy seem to become as fashionable as festive since first started in 1997.

Over the period, haze engulf the sky overlapping the May to September season of the Southwest Monsoon that normally bring drier weather. How nice, if haze engulf the sky from November to January to overlap with the heavy rainfall of the Northeast Monsoon.

With the help of nature, haze would be blown from the east to the west to the Indian Ocean instead to populated lands of Southern Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
