Birthday then and now
Me and my wife have been celebrating our children birthday
with a cake every year since their first and our first cake shop is located on
Jalan Bendahara, Tai Tee Cake Shop. Then as time goes by, we also try other
shops like the Secret Recipe, Yee’s Cake, Saint Merry’s, Italy Cake Shop and
even Nadeje. While our children blow the candles and make a wish, their
grand-mum didn’t get a cake for us but they cooked red eggs cum vermicelli soup
for the belief that we must eat as a “passport” to the next age.
We never ate hawker food or dine in any restaurant those
days to celebrate birthdays and we didn’t have birthday party. Having read “The
Right To Differ”, Lim Kit Siang would give his children a special treat like
going to a movie, a dinner or a picnic. To keep up with time, we must change, we
changed and we make a family a home.
After my wife has a facial by her Lancome beautician, she
came to see me at the Coffeebean & Tea Leaf. Next we go to the Baker’s
Cottage where “goodness is baked fresh from the heart” We happily take the
7-inch Nuts Bout Cherries where the chocolate sponge is layered with dark
pitted cherries. The birthday boy proposed that his parents should try the
Sarawakian noodles and per this link:
