The Eurasians invite the people of the West to ASEAN 2015
MELAKA
PORTUGUESE SETTLEMENT
SATURDAY 2 MAY 2015
Last Saturday, I attended the talk about, "Save the heritage of the Portuguese".
It was held in the LimKokWing campus within the Portuguese Settlements.
When Melaka was carrying the nickname of a "Sleepy Hollow" many had only reached the road front only
it leads to the village of the Portuguese people.
Many went there to buy homemade Nyonya dumplings or acar-cili, a house that if it still stand today, will be visible after the Alburque Road arch.
They took no interest of what the village could provide except the delicious small shrimp. The small shrimp mixed well with egg omelete, has since become a favourite dish. The Kristang word for the small shrimp, is grago.
If my mum would not to prepare grago pancakes as one of our afternoon tea-break menu, I didn't got an idea what grago is.
Not long after, I found that grago in cincalok, an excellent sauce to compliment the dinner.
Beside fishing, there ain't other economic activities the Portuguese has generated other than their famous seafood cuisine.
It is time for the village men to relook at themselves. They have the creativity and they can contribute to the economy.
Overwhelm by the encouragement on that morning, I am excited to share what the speaker has said.
