Guangdong is a province on the South China Sea coast of the People's Republic Of China while Melaka is a southern State on the coast of the Straits Of Melaka in the Malaysia Peninsular.
The Silk Road (Perjalanan Sutera) derives its name from the lucrative Chinese silk trade. Melaka is a Port Of Call on the Silk Route featured on the voyages of Zheng He.
The Treasure Fleet sailed to Champa, Java, Melaka, Aru, Samudera, Lambri, Sri Lanka, Quilon and Calicut.
The revival of the Silk Route will bring prosperity to Melaka, a hope the delegation to Guangdong bring back to Melaka. The delegation was in Guangdong earlier this week to sign an agreement on trade and to witness the twinning of both the cities of Guangdong and Melaka.
In 2013, some 284,913 Chinese people visited Melaka and with the Guangdong-Melaka cooperation, the number of tourists arrivals are expected to increase in due time.
Melaka is going to build an informative Museum in Guangdong as a showcase of China-Melaka heritage preserved till today.
The Chief Minister Of Melaka, Datuk Seri Ir. Idris Haron led the delegation after Prime Minster Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak renewed diplomatic ties with China.
The Transport Minister Dato' Sri Liow Tiong Lai said a Port Of Call for tourism would be constructed in Melaka to facilitate the arrivals of tourists from China to Melaka as an act to revive the Silk Route.
