Jufien in the Ruifang District of New Taipei City used to be a prosperous area because of its lucrative gold mines, but it fell into decline after the mines closed. 

In recent years, though, with the influx of money from the movie industry and new homes being built to reflect the landscape, Jiufen is once again a hot spot for tourists in and outside of Taiwan.
