CCTV Of Yesteryears
On Mobile
For the rich, closed-circuit television is
used to check who are the visitor before they are allowed into the premises.
For manufacturer, closed-circuit television is used to prevent theft and and
for some but not all, CCTV is installed to catch the ‘ular’ employees.
Literally in English, ‘ular’ is snake. Ular is a Malay language. ‘Ular’ is
given to an employee who laze during work. And in the public, CCTV is used for
the sake of public order.
Before electricity was introduced, the concept
of CCTV was actually in place. In ancient China, a peek through a small hole
was common in many homes. However, the Baba & Nyonya homes are more technical
as the peek-hole is made at the upper floor. The visitor would expect that they
are being viewed.
Visit a Baba & Nyonya home and see for
yourself.
