Filial Piety 孝

The chinese character for filial piety is 孝 and  孝 consists of two parts, one being 老 which means old and the other part being 子 which mean child or the young. A good family is the basis of a good society and this principle of filial piety is strongly advocated by Confucius.

If the Great Way perishes there will morality and duty.

When cleverness and knowledge arise great lies will flourish.

When relatives fall out with one another there will be filial duty and love.

When states are in confusion there will be faithful servants.
