Javanese Traders







Among the
noted traders from Java who came to Melaka were Patih Adam, Patih Kadir, Patih
Yusoff and Patih Yunus. Their trade with Melaka was further established with
the opening of such ports as Demak, Japara, Ceribon and Gerisik in the north of
Java. Their main commodities were rice, sugar, spices and wood. Malaccan
traders often sent their junks to these Javanese ports to obtain these goods.

These ports
were the business centers for the nearby islands such as Moluccas, Bima, Banda
and Gerisik. The Javanese traders who returned from Melaka would being with
them items such as rice, sugar, meat, honey, ginger, sandalwood, cloves,
nutmeg, wood products, weapons and sulphur. The Javanese traders usually
brought cloth from the Indians.
