The Chinese could have supported the Malaysian Chinese Assembly
– At the last Central Committee meeting for the current leadership, MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek urged the government to put in place more initiatives to reduce the impact of subsidy rationalisation on the lower income groups, as well as to look into steps to reduce wastage of public funds.
Dr. Chua is the only MCA president who is fluent both in English Language and Mandarin that we have seen. During the GE 13, the Chinese could have supported the MCA provided they remember the essence of patience. Maybe, over 3 decades since 1983, the MCA gradually loose the trust as an elected party, people have over-expected from what MCA should provide the needs of the Chinese but have never consider the limitations the party could face.
Dr. Chua is an eloquent speaker when I watch his debate with Lim Guan Eng. Dr. Chua is professional and ethical in his speeches and comments. It is quite a let-down when news of his intention of not wanting to continue as a leader for the Chinese. Dr. Chua appreciated all his Central Committee for the support, and cooperation for 3 years and 10 months. Dr. Chua may have friends and foes, but that is normal in politics. What we're going to loose is a eloquent speaker. Will the next leader be at least equvailent ? It will be great for MCA, if the quality of new leaders gets more excellent each time there is a change of leadership.
Although, Datuk Seri Dr. Ng Yen Yen is not contesting for any post in the up coming party polls, she is remaining as an MCA central delegate. She reminded the Chinese to remember the importance of one united MCA.
On unity, perhaps the Chinese is a weak group. First the Chinese divided themselves by dialects, for example, Hailam, Hakka, Cantonese, Hokkien ,... . Next, they further divided themselves by their surname, for example, the Tans, the Lims, the .... . Then, they are further divided by their beliefs, for example, taoism, buddhism, .... . How can the Chinese stay united strongly ? The opposite, we see people of different colours rejoicing the glory of their father through love.
Many said the Chinese is a hardworking lot, but few Chinese-owned brands that could be globalised. If there's an undivided-unity, the Administration would easier know how to serve the Chinese and they could strive better.
Dr. Chua has done a good job.
