When Melaka has successfully design a master-plan to continuously improve the air quality for the state, in particularly the heritage zones, it is believed that more tourists will arrive if there is improvement.
Parties involved to produced improving air quality must set a benchmark and start to work from what is marked. The health ministry could assist in the measurement of air quality and to feed improvement measures to the State Administration for the development of new standards.
Melaka has conserved smoke-free zones a couple of years ago and it has then produce good results time after time. The smoke-free zones is an innovative idea provided when Datuk Seri Mohd. Ali Rustam was the Chief Minister.
In Melaka, the Council's workers have to look for rubbish rather than waiting to be told to clean the place. Zero rubbish is another important element to make sure the air quality keep improving.
Melaka must go beyond the standards set by Mohd. Ali Rustam and the next issue to go after is to improve air quality is to eliminate carbon monoxide being pump into the air by buses, cars, lorries and motorcycles. If an effective and efficient public transportation system is constructed for commuters to travel regularly from one place to another covering the whole of old town, then gasoline-powered vehicles could be restricted to enter the smoke-free zones. Huge multi-levels vehicles parking complexes at the restriction gates not only can make the dream come true but also remove traffic woes and improve State revenues. Of course, electric-powered vehicles are exempted. In China, motorcycles on-the-roads are electrically-powered.
Though with the beautifications plan, the results are still far from satisfactory. Tourists would hope to see more green. In China, even purple cabbages are used to beautify streets.
Let's be patience, so that the present wakil rakyat can concentrate to make Melaka, a garden city.
