Many workplaces cannot combat stress

Many employers and many employess have yet to learn how to combat stress. Stress is thus a major issue for companies and the workers. Malaysia is the 5th most stressful country in Asia after Taiwan, Philippines, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Do workers really cannot combat stress ? The answer is most probably, 'Yes, they can combat stress.' The big unsolved stress that inflicted huge costs for the nation is the yield-level. No body is clever enough to know the minimun stress level and the maximun stress level of a person. Bear in mind, the levels vary from one person to another. It does not mean that a person is not able to take stress compare to another. It is unfair to think that way. Factors to include for review may come from pollution, over-capacity, too many languages used for oral communication, excessive workplace politics, over-reliance on good workers, un-applied industry standards, bullying in the workplace, favouratism, blame others to cover self, discrimination, the strong abusing the weak, selfish exploitation, .....

Japanese are most effective in doing work, at the same time where work is completed efficiently and this made Japan, a productive country. Japanese products and services are liked by people worldwide. They get more efficient and cheaper as years goes by. Yet, Japan does not win the first five top places as the most stressful nation, Malaysia and others grabbed.

90 percent of Taiwanese executives, agreed that today stress is more than last time and Chinese executives also feel the rising level of stress. Everyone know that the Chinese are hard working people.

Although other parts of the world documented the stress level of the nation, data for Malaysia is hard to come by although there is the practice of register for high blood pressure cases. Among salt, smoking, and physical excercise, stress is the main contributor to indirect national costs.

RM920 billion annual cost is accounted for the United States. The American Institue of Stress estimated it.

Besides work stress, traffic jams make stress for workers before workplace and after endwork is bad.

Places smaller, like Melaka, Muar, or Mantin, stress are related to the type of industries or the beliefs of the workplaces.

It has been observed that workplaces which practices 'pressure to get work done' cannot improve much in knowledge and skills. In addition, management arts acquired can't be put into practise. In the long run, such workplaces are not capable to backup the national transformation plan that would be achieved by smart work.
Increase costs of living also pushes up stress level unless salaries are re-enginnered to offset the increase in price of basic commodities like rice, flour, cooking aoil, cooking gas, electricity, fuel ...

Is stress a part of life ? Is stress an essential factor to make a company successful ? Is stress created ? Is stress a need to get work done ? Is stress the only way to squeeze the 'gold' from an effective worker ?
