Budget 2014 ~ Quality Health Services
To enhance healthy living, Quality Health Services is the target.
The Government will continue to provide a better medical services for the people. In order to do that, a total of 22.1 billion dollars is allocated to the health sector that includes operating expenses and services development. The allocation includes the construction of Cape Coral Hospital and the upgrade of a hospital Kuala Lipis plus 30 clinics .
The Government will allocate 66 million dollars for the purchase of additional equipment and building blocks for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu. The government has also provided 234 additional 1Malaysia clinics and as much as 50 1Malaysia clinics will be set up in 2014. To address the shortage of parking at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, a total of 1,950 new parking spaces will be completed in 2014 . Meanwhile, Rompin and Shah Alam Hospital and the National Cancer Institute will be operational early next year .
To improve the quality of care and ease the workload of nurses, the Government will add a total of 6,800 nurses with the provisions of 150 million dollars. In addition, the government will allocate 3.3 billion dollars for the provision of medical supplies and medical equipment sufficient to ensure that patients receive adequate treatment, including the cardiac-thoracic services at Hospital Ipoh , Kuala Terengganu , Kuantan and Kuching .
The Government recognizes the difficulties of kidney patients who have to walk to the dialysis centre for dialysis treatments three times a week. Patients also had to spend up to 400 dollars each time to get treatment. To help facilitate patient treatment, the Government will provide free, Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis treatment kit or CAPD worth 19 thousand dollars per unit. This allows patients with end-stage kidney failure treatment with ease at home. The move is expected to benefit more than one thousand patients.
Statistics also show that there are 2.6 million Malaysians aged 30 years and above classified as diabetic patients. If not controlled, the patient will end up with complications of heart disease, kidney failure, blindness and face amputation. The major preventive action the Government could take is to abolish the subsidy by 34 cents on sugar effective October 26, 2013. Najib Razak urge Malaysian to preserve fitness together with proper health care by reducing sweetened foods and beverages.
