Our Fight For Freedom


A sacred voice rent the celestial sphere:
'The Malays, for certain, will live forever'
Wave upon pulsating, the echoes never cease
Transmitting from Ledang's peak to the depths of the seas
》In breasts of our youths, it flourished
》In the spirits of our maidens, nourished

Likewise, it nestled in the very lifeblood of all
Who were born Malays and bonded withal

In the dying days of ancient Malacca's glory
The Malay entity slowly shed its identity
》When passion, unbridled, was wont to wander free
》And bridge the heavens with its gildled desire
》A token sacrifice - a cup of blood- we ask of theee ended not at Teluk Ketapang
》A nonchalant no, the answer from our sire

》Merchants and ministers, hand in glove
》Raked in wealth beyond what they strove
》Sagacity was lost, and decorum, sold
》Prudence was bought for a bahara of gold
》Trust was put to ransom: life's the price
》The nation's doom was decided by dice

Henceforth, from the ashes of Malacca's fall
Arose the pheonix of patriotism, strong and tall
》The imperialists we fought in great adversity
》Through the warp of time, the woof of history
》To keep a vow: this land must ever be free
》Were we the uncouth pirates of the seas ?

》The struggle ended not at Teluk Ketapang
》Feared we not the guns at Naning
》Our bodies were spared in the woods of Pahang
》But our souls were martyrs on returning

》Kuala Kedah sacrified her noble sons
》Rivers of Perak ran red in blood
》Pasir Putih, alas, was lost to guns
》Our dying prestige was trodden on mud

》With faith we fought at Pasir Panjang
》Batu Pahat and Sungai Manik
》Surrended never, no, not at Gua Musang
》The Emergency: we finally broke its neck

Onward bound, great Freedom Fighters
Who strived with wisdom and hearts sincere
They were our fathers and our mothers -
Leaders of the Nation - who knew no fear.

And in the spirit of Malacca's heroes, we'll create a Nation free
From the ashes of Malacca's ruins, we'll build a Malaysia Free
