Hazy and Hot Melaka



The haze is expected to worsen during the hot and dry season with temperatures reaching to 36 degree celsius over Malaysia. The air quality is affected as the westerly monsoon winds carry unhealthy particles to the shores of the Peninsular. Air Particles Index of 135 for the Bukit Rambai area in Melaka, 120 for the Port Dickson area, 125 for Muar was reported by the Department of Environment on June 17 papers.

API 0 to 50 - Good Level
API 51 to 100 - Moderate Level
API 101 to 200 - Unhealthy Level
API 201 to 300 - Very unhealthy Level
API 301 and above - Hazardous

The public must take precautions by :

  • reducing outdoor activities.
  • avoiding smoking.
  • drinking more water of at least 2 liters a day.
  • washing hands and face frequently.
  • keeping indoor atmosphere clean.
Those suffering from asthma or heart disease must make sure of enough supply of medicine.

Over the last few days, many locals and tourists were seen wearing face masks as the heritage city was shrouded with haze and visibility is reduced.
