Hawker starts his day in the wee hours of each morning, prepares and sells food and drinks at the road side, or street corners, or door to door. The food prepared ranges from Assam-Laksa, to Chicken Rice Balls, from Duck Mee to Koay Teow, from Lontong to Mee Rebus, from Nasi Lemak to Wan Tan Mee and X or Yong Tau Foo.

The old man and the old women would rings hand bell or call out to inform people each day through the same places that food or merchandise has come near. Some used the bamboo to make "klik-klok" as they passes by the streets. The "klik-klok" hawker sells mee-soup at 25 cents. As the cook continued to prepare the mee-soup for the next order, his assistant would deliver bowls of mee-soup to doors as far as almost 500 feet away from his cart. The boy would put the bowls of mee-soup on your dining table of your home, together with pairs of bamboo chopsticks, green and red chillies in saucers. After collecting the money, he would tell his customers like this, "After eating, leave the porcelain bowls, porcelain spoons, porcelain saucers and the bamboo chopsticks outside the gate of your house. I would collect them about midnight after closing business" This practice is an old practice of the hawker and is no longer available now.
