Urinary Leakage
What causes it ?
- weakened pelvic floor muscles due to childbirth or weight gain.
- menopause.
- involuntary contractions of bladder.
- medical conditions like chronic cough, strokes, spinal cord injuries.
What are the symptons ?
- urine leakage while laughing, sneezing, coughing or physical activities.
- sudden urges to urinate and often can't make it on time.
- frequent urination of more than 8 times a day.
What can be done ?
- keep a healthy body weight not to strain the pelvic floor muscles.
- do pelvic floor exercises regularly.
- do not limit water intake.
- do not keep the "just in case" habit of going to toilet.
- avoid constipation that strain the bowels.
- reduce intake of citrus, tomato and spicy foods.
Urine is a waste fluid abstracted from the blood and is secreted by the kidneys, passed through the ureters to the bladder. Normal urine is of a yellow color.
