Spectacles used before the last Emperor of China, Puyi
Mechanically supported before the eyes, spectacles is a
device for aiding sight which consist of two pieces of lenses made of rock
crystal in the past. History identified the Chinese are the earliest people to
use spectacles but the Chinese knew that spectacles was discovered in the 11th
century in the Arabia region.
However, recorded in history, Marco Polo have
observed elderly Chinese using spectacles when he made his journey to China in
1270. If we substract 2012 with 1270, the age of spectacles is 742 years. This
means that the Chinese have been using spectacles even before Admiral Zheng He
discovery of Melaka.
If you take a look at the image of the last Emperor of
China, Puyi; you will see him wearing spectacles. If he still lives now, he
would be 106 at age. In the above image, the spectacles displayed with the
laptop is of age 150 to 200 years. Surely, the spectacles was used by a Chinese
in China before the reign of the last Emperor of China.
