Absorbents and Desiccants
Activated Alumina is a very porous form of aluminium oxide
where it huge surface area absorb liquids and gases without changing its’
original form. It will not dissolve in liquids. It is use for drying, stream
cleaning, acid removal, selective absorption and hydrocarbon absorption.
Activated Carbon is a porous carbonaceous material with a
high surface area to unit weight ratio. Its’ structure is intricate and its’
surface is hydrophobic. Hard and wear resistant, it is a good absorbent.
Activated Desiccant Clay is a montmorillonite clay. It is a
natural occuring mineral. It is cheaper than silica gel. It protect the
contents of the sealed container effectively. In performance exceed the
MIL-D-3464E requirement.
The Environmental Gel is a “Cobalt Chloride Free” and good
for environmental applications. According to the EU Directive 98/98/EC, cobalt
chloride applied to the current Silica Gel indicating desiccants is classsified
as a carcinogen.
The molecular sieve is a type 3A potassium form of Type A
crystal structure and it is an alkali metal alumino-silicate. Type 3A can
absorb molecules of diameters up to angstroms. 4A is a sodium form of the Type
A crystal structure and an alkali metal alumino-silicate too. Type 4A can
absorb molecules with diameters up to 4 angstroms and Type 5A, 5 angstroms.
Type 13X can absorb diameters of 10 angstroms.
Know you see that the sucking up of liquids or gases into a
solid material is called Absorption, a non-technical term.
