Hiking
In Malaysia, hiking was a common sight during the 1960s, and
1970s as to my observation. Before 1960, I have no idea about hiking and of
course, chances to see hiking become fewer after the 1970s in particularly
after 1980.
When hiking was a common sights, there was not many highways
around in the country, let’s not think about cross-states expressways. Roads at that time were usually a single lane
two-ways taking the contours of the hills, the rivers, or even the buildings. Hiking in the past
seemed to be cooler than the present. At that time, the branches of the trees
on both sides of many roads would join above the center of the roads. Shadows
of leaves dancing on the car windscreen was such a beautiful attraction and the
‘dancing’ makes eveyone cheerful.
Walking with a purpose is suppose to be the purpose of
hiking.
They hiked to visit a place they have never seen before.
They hiked to see the cultural aspect of your area. They hiked to test their
skills in finding their ways with the map. It is important that the map
available for the tourists is immediately updated whenever there is any changes
in your area. A city that want to provide international facilities and services
to her tourists must abide by this.
The scouts also organised hiking activities through times.
A good shoes is the basic to hiking. But never go hiking in
a pair of new shoes.
When you hike you won’t want to stop to light a fire and
cook a meal but you would take simple ready food with you. However, with the
modern expressways, the rest and relax stations exhibits wide variety of foods
and beverages for you to pick up. What more if you hike to Jonker Walk in
Melaka, you need not to take any food and drink
with you, as there is abundance foods, beverages and desserts there. The
foods, beverages and desserts in Jonker is a must –try.
At Jonker Walk, the old constrast the new (structures), the
ugly contrast the good (cultural) and the taste contrast your taste (foods).
