LONDON 2012
London is the capital of England and is the centre of the
Commonwealth of Nations. London consists of two cities, namely, the City of
London and Westminster, with the London Bridge spanning about 900 meters across
the Thames. The first bridge across the Thames was done by the Romans. Once a
Roman fortress, the Tower of London stands at the east of the city.
Buckingham Palace is the home of the British sovereign and
the palace faces an ornate memorial to Queen Victoria. Equally, an ornate
memorial fountain is still standing great within the Dutch Square in Melaka and
the fountain is ever since its construction, called Queen Victoria’s Fountain.
On the south bank of the Thames, Shakespeare, Marlowe and
other Elizabethan writers plays were performed.
In 1777, a Londoner, Dr. Samuel Johnson said, “When a man is
tired of London, he is tired of life, for there is in London all that life can
afford.”
On the 6th of July 2005, London was selected as
the host city during the 117th IOC Session in Singapore and this
year we have London 2012.
London 2012 will open on the 27 July 2012 and will close on
the 12 August 2012. The Olympics Torch Relay is now running till 27 July.
Welcome London 2012.
