KD Tunku Abdul Rahman
Malaysia’s first submarine, the Royal Malaysian Nave has
bought two Scorpene class submarines worth 3.4billion and these two submarines
have been constructed at the harbor of Toulon, France and Cartogena, Spain.
KD Tunku Abdul Rahman has been launched on 23rd
October 2007 and safely reached Malaysia on 3rd September 2009.
Malaysia has been the 3rd country to own the asset after Singapore
and Indonesia.
These are its specifications:
1.
The Scorpene class submarine is one of the conventional
warships which is capable to carry 10 torpedo and 30 land mines destroyer. The
Scorpene submarine also had been equipped with 6 tubes of missiles which are
anti-ship missile and anti-submarine torpedo. Both can be launched at one time
without boundaries.
2.
It can function well between 100 meters to 200
meters depth to watch over the Malaysia Ocean, the Straits of Melaka, the South
China Sea, the Sulu Sea, and the Celebes Sea.
3.
The submarine used a new version of the
electric-diesel engine.
4.
The speed of this submarine is 20 knot and it
has been armed with advanced navigation system which is known as SUBTICS.
The developer of the submarine is the Defence
Conseil National which is a France ship firm with its partner from Spain,
Navantia.
