Duyong Mosque ~ Masjid Jamek Laksamana Hang Tuah
The villagers say, this mosque was formerly a surau which is a smaller place of worship for Muslims and is upgraded into a mosque.
Its structure is built with red laterite rocks and wood, while its roof used Chinese and Dutch tiles. It was built through voluntarily efforts of the people in the year 1850.
Its founder has been identified as Wan Chilek. The tower built by the side of the mosque in 1908 is used for the 'azan', a particular time of the day calling for people to make prayers.
In 1967, several changes were made to its stairs and the rood was replaced with ardex tiles and the ceiling with asbestos. The following year, a pond is made from laterite stones, and is fitted with water pipes for people to take'wuduk' or ablution.
For the mosque to cater for more people, it was expanded in 1973 and in 1976 with works done at the back of the mosque.
The Duyong Mosque is a beautiful mosque.
The Perigi Hang Tuah and the Rumah Melayu is within walking distance.
