CULTURAL & TRADITIONAL ACTIVITIES RIPPLES FROM JONKER WALK 马六甲的文化街

Dancing is as old as man. As the world progress through the Ages, dancing is linked with music, and conditioned by climate, geography and history. Stay overnight, and see such dancing in a heritage busiest business street of the olden days that forbid vehicles passage today when the lights are turned on - get to the site: the Jonker Walk.

Folktales and legends of many lands, the fabulous dragon is awaiting. The gigantic reptile bestow wealth and wisdom as gifts as you stand under.

If you had seen Gondolas moored along the lagoon in Venice, the old folks had not only seen the tongkangs but also used them along the 'Venice of Asia."

The art of combining two or more sounds of definite musical pitch is a reality and render you a myriad of repertoire from songs, classical to traditional Chinese music. In this city, cultural and traditional activities ripples from the Jonker Walk.

If portrait is mentioned, the Italian painter and sculptor, Leonardo da Vinci 1452-1519 with his famous "Mona Lisa" captures everyone's heart. (Mona Lisa is the portrait of the third wife of Fancesco del Gioconda and is noted for its inscrutable smile.) In Jonker Walk, I found plenty paintings and portraits which have stole my attention. One of which encourages me to walk through the First Cross Street to cross the ageing Kampung Jawa Bridge and to arrive at the Kampung Jawa village. Stopping at the old Lido Theatre for a plate of hot simmering Hindu-Muslim spices topping of the local ' spaghetti ' and a great cendol, the noon weather would carry me to how the residents of old Jawa village made their steps to the Morten village. This path is nice for photography. Along this path, we see the cultures of the Chinese, the Gujarati, the Malay, and the the Hindu, in their original old forms.

Painting has probably been practised in every human society from pre-history to the present. Cave men painted realistic animals on the walls of caves, but with the advent of historical civilizations, wall decoration and other painting became a major art form.

Painting Historical Outline is as follows. Prehistoric Painting (C.200,000 to 3000 B.C), Ancient Painting (2nd to 3rd millennium), Oriental Painting, Medieval Painting, Renaissance to Modern Painting, 17th Century Painting, 18th Century Painting, 19th Century Painting and .... . From the paintings, I found words of hints to journey broader and wider from Jonker Walk. The promise of the heritage values enticed me to collect many images with my camera along the broader and wider encounter.
