Andaman Islands

Andaman Islands are a group of islands in the Bay of Bengal. South-west of Burma, together with the Nicobar Islands, they form a province of India.

They consist of six main islands namely the North, Middle, South, and Little Andaman, Baratang, and Rutland together with about 200 small islands and islets.



The islands are covered with tropical jungle, volcanic, and hilly. The highest peak is about two thousands four hundred feet.

Andamanese is the original race inhabiting the Andaman Islands. These Andamaneses are dark-skinned with frizzy-haired.

100 years ago, they used arrows for hunting land animals and fish, while detachable harpoons in dugout canoes are used to hunt turtle and shark.

The Andamanese uses shells as their utensils in their huts roofed with cane leaves.

The Andamanese used the skulls of relatives be wearing them round their necks. The tribes were grouped into coast-men and jungle-men. The islands was used as a penal settlement.

Today, the Andaman Islands is a fishing paradise.
