ANDES

Traversing Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile with Argentina and contains some of the highest peaks and most stupendous mountain scenery in the world, is the ANDES.

In many places of the mountain system of the Andes which extends throughout South America, crowned with perpetual snow are the great Cordillera elevating at over 20,000 feet. Andes in the Ecuador embody two great chains, known as the Eastern and the Western Cordillera, continuations of the Western and Central Chains of Colombia, table-lands of Quito, Ambato and Cuenca.

Humboldt and Bonpland made a 1802 ascents to Chimborazo 20,498 feet, rising 5,000 feet above snow line with its double dome covered with mists.

In 1985 two British friends, Joe Simpson and Simon Yates travelled to a remote corner of Peru. Ambitious mountaineers, their aim was to conquer the unclimbed West face of a notorious 21,000 feet peak, 'Siula Grande' Their story has become part of the mountaineering legend.
