Straits Settlements
Straits Settlements are former British crown colony. It comprised Singapore, Malacca and Penang, all of which are adjacent to the Strait of Melaka, and were the earliest territories in the Malay Peninsula.
In addition to the Cocos Islands and the Christmas Island annexed to Singapore, it included Labuan, which came within the limits of the colony in 1907.
Following World War II, Malacca and Penang became a part of the Malay Union (later as the Federation), while Singapore was constituted as a separate colony, and Labuan became a part of the colony of the British North Borneo.
The total area of the Colony was about nearly 1400 sq. m.
