Snails, Cockles, Mussels ... Malacca
Escargot is a dish of cooked land snails, usually served as an appertizer in the French restaurants. People from several countries eat snails too and they are; the Balinese, the Spainish, the Portuguese, Vietnamese, the Nigerian, to name a few.
The Malaccan takes snails too, beside the cockles, and the mussels. In this heritage city, you can find one place preparing great sauce that accompany each plates along Bunga Raya Road in Malacca. Bunga Raya is a Malay word for the flower, Hisbicus. Adjacent to the historical-riched Sungai Melaka (Malacca River), Bunga Raya was the busiest road in town during when Malaysia attained independence. Make sure you have a camera to capture the typical surroundings after a meal of shell food along Bunga Raya.
You've got to remember this Hokkien word, 'see hum' so that the locals are able to lead you to the tables when you have got into Bunga Raya.
By not less than a hundred feet depending on the speed and the direction of the flowing wind, a delicious smell would tempt your thought for food. The smell is cooked up by a specialty item over a low charcoal fire and later on stone-grinded. Wow ! The locals say 'ho chak' when it is served with a rich crunchy delicious sauce.
These are not all, there are other food items ... look at the ala carte as you sit on the stool chair which is not more than a feet in height. That's fun ! Malacca
