1673 HERITAGE SITE, MALACCA

338 years ago, a site took shape along the Harmony Street in Malacca. This heritage site is named the Green Cloud. The Green Cloud is a heavenly place.

Traditionally, the parents would bring their childrens to this place before they first put their first step into schools anywhere. Auspiciously, they would make entrance to the Green Cloud via the grandest main door although there are two smaller ones, on both the sides.

Family after family would make endless flow into this place one year after another to seek blessing for their childrens so that they could fare well in the studies.

First, they would get some Joss Sticks, Incense Paper and Candles on the left of the Green Cloud. Next, the candles are lighted and placed at the holders besides the three altars to brighten their prayers while the Joss Sticks are used to make wishes.

One would face outward far into the heavenly clouds above to pay respect before making way to the altar on the right to make special seeking on studies. Special selected vegetables stalks bundled with traditional red paper are placed on the this altar before prayers begin. Drops of oil from the vase of the non-stop burning lamp touches the soles of the new school shoes signifying a special heavenly guildance; granted to the child in each and every steps he would be making in his education journey.

After performing the customary requirements of the altar for studies, they would proceed to seek other forms of blessing at the other two altars situated next to each other before making an exit to the Tiger gods.

Again, selected vegetables stalks bundled in red are offered but this time, included is raw meat. Peace is seeked at this altar.
