Egypt: Pyramids


Great Pyramid is one of the Wonders of the World. The pyramids attract visitors from all over the world and they fill Egyptians with pride.

The Great Pyramid of Cheops, of Khufu, at Giza, built 2900 B.C. and has a tremendous pile of stone blocks at the base measuring some 700 over square feet. They are several chambers and there is a tomb below.

On the other hand, the Sphinx is a symbol of kingly power.

A sphinx, with body of a lion and the head of a Pharaoh, was, in the ancient myths of the Egyptians, a symbol of the sun god with whom the Pharaoh was identified. These figures were placed at the entrance of the temples.

The Egyptian pyramids are the most famous.
