That Uncle

Hard to find one today. You dare say, "Easy"

He stopped his Fiat 124 to enjoy a word or two with my father on his way to Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation on Jalan Kota for work. Those were the times where I enjoyed the coconut trees, the mango tress and the rumah atap right in front my house. It was so green for me during 1966 to 1971. Frogs croaking and chirping of crickets was a joy and at time to face the fright of snakes. Next to Dunlop House and very near to Fort A Famosa, now the buildings there have been gazatted as heritage site.

He used only one car in his lifetime. After he retired till today, he goes by foot.

After my father passed away, that uncle would stop to enjoy a minute or two with me.

He told me he enjoyed walking from his home to the Tranquerah Badminton Hall. It is not he can't afford a car but he know it was not a necessity. He is a badminton referee.

He have gave used shuttercocks a few time to my son around 2008 knowing living is not easy long before GST is born . God has blessed as when is needed, a need to be active after work, action comes. Timely, my son's interest to play badminton has helped. We used the gate as badminton net. I just had a gastroscopy and ultrasound and with badminton games I see the recovery. Then I added jogging to sweat better. Then I realize walking, one activity I have seen since a toddler and that uncle has set as as example since his retirement.

Now Samsung S5 can count my steps. I just make convenient walks only. On friends motivation, I keep walking moderately. Today is a walk I call The Saint John Walk.
