Blouse-Dress Combination Kebaya | Melaka

Melaka is celebrating a month-long heritage from mid-May to mid June this year. Better than last year, the events are more attractive, full of fun and joy.

On Saturday 14 June 2014, there was a Pertandingan Ratu Kebaya open to public audiences at the Dataran Sungai Melaka near to Casa del Rio and Jonker Walk.

On the same evening there was a Malam Puisi at the Menara Taming Sari starting at 8.00 pm to 12.00 midnight while in the afternoon there was a Drawing Competition including school-going ages and kids.

On the other end of Sungai Melaka, a Karnival Teknologi Hijau was going on at the Spices Garden from 8.00 in the morning to 6.00 pm.

On the eve of Father's Day, there were loads of buses transporting tourists to Melaka from the northern and the southern States of Peninsular Malaysia. Jonker Walk as usual is also full of activities.

Datuk Latipah bte Omar was the special guest (Tetamu Khas) for the Kebaya Queen Competition. Kebaya is a traditional blouse-dress combination that originates from Indonesia and is worn by women in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Burma, Singapore, southern Thailand and the southern part of the Philippines.

Kebaya is also a favorite among the Chinese girls and the Baba-Nyonya community.

In Malaysia, the late Tun Endon Mahmood has a special fascination for kebaya.
