Sri Lanka and Zheng He

Colombo Museum is keeping the precious artifact of the stele erected by Emperor Yongle to let the present world populace to remember the early relations between China and Sri Lanka. Time in memorial, gifts like silver, incense burners, candles, gold, gold thread, fabulous silk are among the long list of donated items.
The donated items were for the buddhist temple and one of the temple has the remains of the Buddha’s teeth and bones.

Next, the Chinese fleet conducted trade in India before stopping at Malacca on its way back to China.

China historic relations with Malacca has yielded economic heritage revenue to Melaka. After Zheng He left Melaka in the maiden voyage, the Treasure Fleet reached Calicut, India.

Calicut has many visitors. Not only the visitors went there, the other visitors were Javenese, Maldivians, Islanders, Ceylonese, Yemenites and the people from the far.

The chieftain of Calicut said, “ Zheng He and Wang Jinghong present is clearly China’s love for relations although they are hundreds and thousands apart from India”. His remark touched China’s heart, and Zheng He got a pavillion built as a momento. Wang Jinghong provided these words for inscription at the pavillion. “Through all weathers, we share hardships, customs and happiness be it we are hundreds of thousands of kilometers away”.

The king of Calicut broke his tears when Zheng He’s armada left him on the voyage to back home. Zheng He’s 2nd voyage began in 1407.
