First Submarine Dived in River Thames


Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea remind the old television series that made exciting sounds of the submarine. Submarines are killers of the deep.

The first submarine made its dive in 1620 in the Thames River.

Old submarines dived beneath the surface of water with the help of the oars at both sides of its body.
The first submarine which launched a successful attack on the Confederate Hunley.

It is during the 20th century that submarines were built with combustion engines, steel hulls and motor. These submarines capabilities were tested during the World War I and the World War II. Before an attack is made, the periscope is the only tool the captain depend to fire torpedo.

After the World Wars, the United States fleet of submarines are capable of great depths and long periods operations and they are nuclear-powered. These submarines are undetectable by surface ships and airplanes.
Inside a submarine, you can find; the engine room, the reactor room, the missile room, the missile control center, the navigation room the gyro room, the stores room, the batteries room, the bridge, the periscope room, the crews quarters, the officers wardroom and the forward torpedo room.

For educational and historical purpose, the Agosta 70 is open for public study at Dataran Klebang, Melaka.
