Venice: City of Canals

Venice spreads out over 118 islests and among the islands run almost 200 canals crossed by some 400 bridges.

Thus, Venice appears unusually quiet to the visitor, long used to the hum of automobile traffic.

Venice has preserved its past remarkably well. The first bridge across the Grand Canal was a pontoon type and it was supported by boats. Venice on her hundred islands, looked out upon a peaceful lagoon, of the blue Adriatic and most of the streets are canals. Today, Venice is beloved of tourists.
