王氏宗祠 The Art of Dumpling Making ~ Jonker Walk

Sit Whye Tong Ong See Chong Soo is presenting a competition on the Art of Dumpling Making on Sunday 1 July 2012 at Jalan Hang Kasturi, a cross-road of Jonker Walk.

Starting at 10 in the morning, the competition will begin in the ancestral hall in commemoration of the Duanwu  Festival.

Dumpling's legacy is wrapped with bamboo leaves and tied with shredded dried banana stems fibres today. Tomorrow 23 June 2012 is also the fifth day of the firth month in the Chinese calendar. A day in a year to remind us not to ignore those who are loyal. To the Chinese, loyalty is very important, and loyalty has been worship for more than two thousands years.

The participants are to wrap two dumplings in a specified time. The participants are to prepare the bamboo leaves, the glutinous rice, the shredded dried banana stem fibre strings, and the fillings.

The winners of the first place, second place and the third place will each receive a cash prize and a trophy.

Complimenting the adult Art of Dumpling Making competition, children will enjoy a colouring contest simultaneously.
