Mexicans Boys and Girls and Christmas

Posadas is a fine old Mexican custom and it held on the nine days before Christmas Day. Posadas mean lodging.

Young mexicans, boys and girls, candles in hand, march singing from house to house asking for lodging in remembrance of Mary and Joseph seeking shelter in Bethlehem.

Food and refreshments are served when the children are admitted upon pleading though at first the hosts pretend to refuse. With great rejoice, the highlight of the posada is the pinata. Filled with good things to eat, the pinata is a big earthenware jug and is also used in parties.

This traditional custom of breaking the pinata blind-folded is rejoicing as the guest gets three strikes. The young Mexicans pounce upon its contents with shouts of glee when their friend succeeds in shattering the pinata.

Mexican families prefer to have a nacimiento, which consists of small figures of Mary and Joseph and the Christ Child, shephers, the 3 Wise Kings and animals to the stable. Mexicans also prefer to ask the three Wise Kings to bring their gifts although they know Santa Claus does that.

Portuguese also arranged beautiful nacimiento alongside Christmas trees, Santa Claus, Rudolph the red nose reindeer, Snow Man, White Dove, Christmas Bows, Christmas Bells and ....

Portuguese Settlement, Malacca celebrate Christmas with great rejoicing. Merry Christmas.
