KAMPUNG KLING MOSQUE


The Kampung Kling Mosque is situated at Jalan Tukang Emas or Black Smith Road. The Black Smith Road is also called the Harmony Street because in this street, there is a mosque, the Kampung Kling Mosque; there is a hindu temple, the Sri Payyatha Viyanagar Moorthi Temple and there is a chinese temple, the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple.


The original structure of the Kampung Kling Mosque built in the year 1748 was a wooden building and in 1872, the mosque was rebuilt in brick.

The Kampung Kling Mosque is one of the traditional mosque in Malacca, which still retains its original design today. The architectural design of the mosque is a cross between the Sumatran, the Chinese and the Melaka Malay.

The 'minaret', 'pool' and 'entrance arch' were built at the same time with the main building of the mosque.



The Department of Museums and Antiqiuties completed conservation works on the mosque in 1999.
